And the Best-Dressed Man at the SAG Awards Was...

It's the time of year when Hollywood men need a lot of tailoring in their arsenal — from all those tuxedos we saw at the boozefest known as the Golden Globes (on these best dressed men) to the stuff Ryan Gosling's been wearing in Thailand while continuing to avoid events like the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Were Gosling at the SAGs on Sunday night, though, he would have been competing with the men above. Hard to tell from photos, exactly, but they all swapped out the traditional black-tux game for varying shades of midnight blue — a color that, supposedly, takes better to harsh camera light better than traditional black. It also adds a bit of vim to a room full of black penguins, especially if said room happens to be full of actors who want to enjoy their late afternoons with one another (that Los Angeles sun always reminds how early these events actually are). Surely, Josh Brolin and Jim Parsons were noticed by their peers in their not-black Ermenegildo Zegna black-tie, as well as Armie Hammer in his midnight Gucci suit, and some blonde kid from Glee who successfully dressed beyond his years in blue Giorgio Armani.
The best part about this look is how well this shade can work with dark navy or black ties, satin lapels, and shoes. No one proved this better than John Krasinski, showing up in a slim Prada tuxedo perfectly tailored his body, and with hair that was less sloppy than we've seen from him in previous years. Especially compared to this man's more casual days, it was nice to see how a few calculated risks — no bowtie, no black tux, along with a satin pocket-square and medium-width peak lapels — can prove that dressing like a star need not always recall the glory days of Hollywood. Certainly something to keep in mind next time you need your own tux.
